Education at TED

Kristin: I’ve been meaning to post about the two key education resoruces that I became aware of at TED.

A big highlight for me was Salman Khan talking about his Khan Academy resource. This site features thousands of 12 minutes videos on science, maths and economics, plus others I’m sure! When he describes the beauty in a mathematical equation and Bill Gates confides he uses it to refresh his knowledge, it’s obvious the resource is different and compelling. It’s amusing, instructional and useful, but it is also starting to turn pedagogy on its head.

Also this year the beginning of TEDED was announced. We spoke about it as part of the TEDActive Social Networks Project, and it is sure to be an incredible resource for teachers, comprising shorter videos (<10 mins) and ways to navigate and search within the larger TED database. I’d recommend signing up to their Brains Trust and being part of ‘catalysing’ learning across the globe.
