Big Blog Theory Winners Announced

Kristin: On Friday afternoon, the Big Blog Theory winners were announced. So while I’m failing the first rule of communications (timeliness), I would like to congratulate the winners.

For Best Australian Science Blog, congratulations to Bec Crew who publishes at Save your Breath for Running Ponies, focusing on animal science. In the press release, Bec said that “It’s become a sort of Running Ponies mission to get people excited about the fascinating, often left-field discoveries that are being made every day, and to perhaps send a message that science doesn’t always have to be about climate change, oil spills and outbreaks.” I love how Bec manages to reference Nature and Academic journals while writing dinner party conversation in the same breath (see That’s Just Gross… and Trust Me…). Bec will now blog during National Science Week 2010 (14-22 August) where she will tour various events reporting on activities, the people she meets and what she learns.

Special well dones also to the lovely Capatin Skellet (A Schooner of Science) and Marc West (Mr Science Show) who gained honourable mentions.

The winner of the microblogging category was Corri Baker (@cbsquared_) who is as well known for making love potions in The Advertiser and querying pollies on Q&A as she is for tweeting about science.

Fortuitously, both Marc West (@westius) and Corri (@cbsquared_) will be celebrating their wins with a group of us in Adelaide from 6:30 pm this evening at The Historian Hotel for the first #adlscitweetup. Proving again that social media is a must for science communications (!)
