Alex: Just thought I’d say hello and introduce myself as I’m new to the role as an Industry Analyst at Bridge8.
My name is Alexandra Smart- I come from Bartagunyah- at farm at Melrose, the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia. My areas of specific capabilities include science commercialisation, communication, and marketing. I have a Bachelor of Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from UniSA and Honours in Biotechnology (IP Management and Commercialisation) from Adelaide University. Following honours I stayed with the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics (ACPFG) for my PhD, investigating stress responses in barley which I’m currently completing. During my PhD I completed a Graduate Certificate in Commercialisation with a Government Commercialisation Training Scheme Scholarship through the University of Adelaide. Whilst at the ACPFG I’ve been involved in many science communication activities including presenting the science education workshop ‘Get into Genes’ as well as ‘CSI: Crop Science Investigators’ at the Royal Adelaide Show. I have been with the AusBiotech Student Association (ABSA) Committee for a couple of years organising many networking events and I Co-Chair the committee for 2008. My other interests include tourism, agricultural diversification, SA wine, and I must have several doses of snowboarding and wakeboarding each year to survive!
I’ve enjoyed my time with the dynamic team at Bridge8 so far and look forward to more fun times ahead!
