Kristin: A week ago I spoke at a school breakfast for fathers and daughters in years 7-9. The title of the talk was ‘Stuck on Science’ and I used the opportunity to explain the issues that may require consideration when thinking about an emerging technology. Specifically, I used our recent sponsorship of the Graffiti Research Lab at the Adelaide Festival as inspiration. The students made ‘throwies’ and we looked at the implications – whose idea? is it legal? how much does they cost? are they damaging to the environment? can we make design improvements? Of course these specific questions can be generalised and applied more broadly so students left with both a way of considering issues and a throwie as a memento. No word on how or where the throwies were used yet!
