Mindful of Coincidence

Kristin: The AFR Boss ran an article in its August 2007 edition called ‘Taming the Monkey’  by Amanda Sinclair about the perils of a busy mind and how encouraging mindfulness or presence provides focus and self-awareness for leaders.   The day before reading the article, Barry (a futures colleague of mine) lent me a book called Presence by Peter Senge et al on ‘human purpose and the field of the future’.  I find the concept of mindfulness attractive, perhaps because I tend towards the busy mind!  However, mindfulness is an essential element in research and innovation as it provides space for ‘flow’, for linking ideas and for perceiving things in a new light.
